Re-run a mail merge

When you run a mail merge on a sheet you've already sent from, YAMM decides who gets an email based on two things: what's in the Merge status column, and which rows are visible.

What YAMM skips on a re-run:

  • Rows with a valid merge status: EMAIL_SENT, EMAIL_OPENED, EMAIL_CLICKED, RESPONDED, BOUNCED, or UNSUBSCRIBED

  • Rows with 0 as a merge status

  • Rows that are hidden or filtered out

Every other row gets an email.

Two recipients will receive an email as the others are hidden, have a valid status or a zero in the Mail merge column
tip

To target recipients by how they reacted — opened, didn't open, didn't reply — run a follow-up mail merge instead.

Choose what to change in your sheet

GoalChange in your sheet

Reuse the whole list for a new campaign

Select every cell in the Merge status column and press Delete. This also ends the tracking report for the previous campaign. If you clear it by mistake, restore the sheet from its revision history.

Every status deleted from the Merge status column, leaving it empty

Email contacts you just added

Add the new rows and leave the existing statuses alone. YAMM skips the rows it already sent to.

Two new recipient rows added below rows that already have a merge status

Resend to a handful of people

Clear the Merge status cells of those rows only. Each cleared cell also removes that recipient from the previous campaign's tracking report.

Two of four statuses deleted, leaving the other two in place

Resend to a whole segment

Filter your list, hide the rows to skip, or enter 0 next to them. See Filter out some recipients.

Re-run the merge

  1. In Google Sheets, open your contact list spreadsheet.

  2. Make your change from the table above.

  3. Start a mail merge.

  4. Check the count on the Send emails button before confirming. It tells you how many rows YAMM will actually send to.

Start Mail Merge window noting that rows with a valid merge status will be skipped, with a Send 2 emails button

YAMM emails those rows only, and the tracking report updates with the new campaign's statuses.
